First Nations Disability Advocacy Program

RIAC’s First Nations Disability Advocacy Program is specially designed for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander individuals with disabilities, their families, and carers. Our approach is all about working with you, respecting your culture, and empowering your choices.

  • Self-Advocacy: We assist you in speaking up for yourself, ensuring your needs and rights are front and center.
  • Navigating government systems: Struggle with the NDIS, Centrelink, or other services? We’re here to help you understand and manage these systems effectively.
  • Letter writing and communication support: Whether it’s drafting a letter or preparing for meetings, we’re by your side.
  • Information and referral: Need more support? We can connect you with other helpful agencies or services.
  • Meeting representation: In any meeting, we ensure your voice is not just heard, but respected.
  • Complaint assistance: If things aren’t right, we’ll help you make a complaint and see it through.
  • Decision Reviews: Facing challenges with NDIS or Centrelink decisions? Let’s review them together.

We provide specialised assistance for First Nations people with a disability living on Wadawurrung, Taungurung, Bangerang, Yorta Yorta, Ladji Ladji, Barkindji, Dja Dja Wurrung and Ngurai-illam Wurrung Country.
